Jets full value in decisive win over Stars
9:39 PM
DALLAS – Another day, another step closer to history.
The Winnipeg Jets got a pair of goals from Kyle Connor and a shutout from Connor Hellebuyck (his eighth goose egg of the season) as they blanked the Dallas Stars. 4-0 at American Airlines Center on Thursday.
Nino Niederreiter and Morgan Barron also scored for the Jets, who improved to 54-21-4 and wrap up a two-game road trip on Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
With the win, the Jets extended their lead in the Central Division and Western Conference standings to six points over the Stars.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Jets magic number to clinch the division is down to one point – which includes any points gained by the Jets or lost by the Stars, who have dropped four consecutive games (0-2-2) for the first time this season.
The Jets have never won a division title in the NHL in either the 1.0 or 2.0 versions of the franchise.
Vacant building owners could soon have city clean graffiti
3:36 PM
A new motion aims to require vacant building owners to let the city and its partners clean graffiti off their structures.
Council’s property and development committee will be asked to add an automatic waiver that lets a city program clean up graffiti when property owners apply to get a permit under the city’s vacant buildings bylaw.
The change would allow a free graffiti removal program the city offers to residents to cover more empty buildings, said Coun. Cindy Gilroy (Daniel McIntyre).
Currently, each property owner must opt in separately to the program, which is supported by business improvement zones.
Council’s property and development committee will consider the idea on April 16.
Four new probable measles cases reported
3:19 PM
Manitoba Public Health reported four new probable cases of measles in the province Thursday.
That brings the total number of confirmed and probable infections reported since February 10.
A provincial government spokesperson said there is no public risk at this time.
The latest exposure date was March 15 between 11 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.
The four probable cases and the most recent exposure date are not linked.
In February, the province confirmed five cases of the virus, one of the most highly contagious in the world, and an additional case was reported in March. The four probable cases are current as of Monday.
The measles virus spreads through close personal contact with an infected person and through the air via an infected cough or sneeze. The virus can be spread by droplets that can stay in the air for several hours. Infection can result in serious illness or death.
Public health officials say the majority of cases, which have spiked nationally and internationally, are primarily in unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children who have been exposed in their communities.

Youth arrested for gun possession after chase: police
1:00 PM
A 17 year old was arrested after police say they found guns and ammunition inside a stolen vehicle after a chase.
RCMP requested the Manitoba First Nations Police Service to be on the lookout for two stolen trucks possibly headed to the Sandy Bay community on April 6.
Police caught up to and attempted to stop the vehicles, a white Ford truck and a Dodge Ram, on Highway 50 near Langruth. Police said both vehicles tried to box in the patrol unit and force it off the road.
Police continued to pursue the Ford truck when backup arrived but it sped off. The vehicle continued to Sandy Bay when the driver stopped and was arrested without incident.
The driver of the Dodge Ram fled.
Police say four firearms and ammunition were found inside the Ford. The youth has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The MFNPS said the vehicle was involved in several property and off-road vehicle thefts in surrounding communities.
