Review by Moresbi ★★★½

"Zoku aoi sanmyaku" aka "The Blue Mountains: Part II" pretty much picks up where Part I left off and, while with a different feel, complements and concludes the previous events.
Just for context, the first 8/9 minutes were a short recap of Part I.
Also, and once again, imdb's synopsis isn't 100% accurate and actually spoils the events.

The plot is far less focused on the political angle of events and more focused on the reactions to the "main" event, the "romances" that sprout from it and an overall lighter and brighter view of things. There's a specific scene that really didn't seem to fill in with the rest lol

Once more, the beautiful Setsuko Hara leads the way, sharing…

Review by Ruben Quiroga Kanahuaty ★★

Much more conversational and civilized with a little less charm than part one.

Review by Oscar Lau ★★★

Thematically it should be one film instead of separating into two parts, they’re not that long together anyway. The climactic ‘parental meeting’ once again finds the solemnity and comedy present at once, but following the story for two hours already, it feels much more homogenous. The performance of the cast is in general excellent, it’s nice to see Setsuko Hara in a more ‘dynamic’ role here.

Review by PUNQ ★★½

The two Blue Mountains films are sweet films. Almost too innocent in its curiosity for romance to make a mark. The first one feels more youthful, while part two more mature, but still just as naive as the first one. The main positive thing is the acting which is so nice and calm, making them a pleasant viewing experience.

Review by Decoupage ★★★½ Liked

Parts I and II together are almost great, but the ridiculous and stupid fight scene near the end drops this one into the " just good" category. Still, the school investigation scene goes on for like 30 minutes and amazingly never gets boring, the scene with Yoko Sugi and Ryo Ikebe sunbathing must have felt like a Roman Porno flick to 1949 Japanese audiences, and the final bicycle ride and scene on the beach vibing to the famous Blue Mountains theme song make this a worthy two-night viewing.

Review by DepresedBergman ★★

The plot gets weirder and lengthier here in this. I find that Imai was unsure of what to do after a certain period of time and clubbed all the characters into one to give an ending of sort. Disappointing, to say the least.

Review by dirtylaundri ★★★½ Liked

Not much plot in part 2, it's mostly about working through, both emotionally and discursively, the events of part one. More often than not, this brings out the film's strengths. For starters, Imai makes better use of Hara, her face is so radiant at times, he just has to cut directly to fireworks, afterwards. There's also an extremely sensual beach scene, like something out of a sun tribe film.

Somewhere in the middle the film grinds to a complete halt while everyone is summoned in school to discuss the state of juvenile morality. Almost half an hour of excessive, mugging social theater, and clearly the best part of BLUE MOUNTAINS.

Review by Creolecat ★★★★ Liked

Very enjoyable 2 part film in a school setting. The theme of old values versus the new post war Japan. It was nice to see Setsuko Hara in a different type of role. I would say this is a comedy drama as there were scenes that had me laughing, and there was profanity. Nothing vulgar, just a surprise.

Review by Muriru ★★★½

O final me remeteu a Pai e filha do Ozu, as bicicletas e a praia.

Review by ellis ★★★

somehow I felt this was not quite on par with the first film, largely because it was mostly dedicated to conflict resolution; all the character work and introductions to the town’s social milieu that i enjoyed in part 1 took a backseat here. nonetheless, still good
